QuickBooks Payroll Training Courses

Learn to run UK payroll in QuickBooks confidently and compliantly – from your first pay run through auto-enrolment, year-end and multi-client bureau work. Live small-group classes with a named tutor, not a recorded webinar.

What is QuickBooks Payroll training?

QuickBooks Payroll training teaches you how to run UK payroll inside QuickBooks Online — setting up pay schedules and employees, running pay runs, submitting RTI Full Payment Submissions to HMRC, handling leave and statutory pay, managing workplace pension auto-enrolment, and closing off the tax year.

TaxCare Academy delivers it as live, tutor-led online classes across three progressive levels. You practise in a QuickBooks demo company on real pay runs, rather than watching someone else click through the screens.

How it works

Live delivery, real practice

Consistent across every level, designed so you leave able to do the job, not just describe it.

Live on Zoom or Teams

Tutor-led sessions with screen-share. Ask questions in real time — no pre-recorded videos.

Small groups

Capped at five learners, so there's room for your questions and your own scenarios.

Real demo company

Run genuine pay runs in a QuickBooks demo company never touching live employer or client data.

Take-home materials

A training manual per level, plus starter, leaver, auto-enrolment and year-end checklists you'll keep using.

One month of support

Email support after each level, so questions that come up back at work still get answered.

Daytime or evening

Level 1 can split into two evening sessions, so working learners can attend without taking leave.

Why TaxCare Academy

Intuit's payroll certification is built for accountants. This isn't.

Intuit’s own QuickBooks payroll certification sits inside the ProAdvisor programme, which requires a QuickBooks Online Accountant account. If you’re an office manager, a business owner or a student, that route isn’t open to you. Ours is.

A named tutor to ask

Practising UK accountants answer your questions live — on your actual scenarios.

Open to everyone

No ProAdvisor account, no practice membership and no accounting qualification required — just a willingness to learn

Compliance-first

RTI, auto-enrolment and year-end taught as the legal duties they are, not as software features.

Assessed & certificated

Hands-on assessment and a certificate you can show employers , structured to support a CPD-hours claim.

Questions, Answered

QuickBooks Payroll training FAQs

Choose a reputable UK provider such as TaxCare Academy, enrol on the level that matches your experience, and attend live tutor-led sessions on Zoom or Teams. You practise in a QuickBooks demo company, complete a short assessment and receive a certificate. Beginners start at Basics; the full Basics-to-Professional pathway takes you through to independent, multi-client payroll.

No. Level 1 has no prerequisites beyond basic computer literacy — it’s designed for complete beginners. Levels 2 and 3 build on the level before, but you can join a higher level directly if you can demonstrate equivalent working knowledge through a short competency check.

Individual levels are £149 (Basics), £229 (Advanced) and £279 (Professional). The complete Basics-to-Professional bundle is £429, saving roughly 30% against booking each level separately. Every level includes live tutor-led sessions, a training manual, checklists and a completion certificate.

No. Intuit runs its own certification through the QuickBooks ProAdvisor programme, which is aimed at accounting and bookkeeping professionals and requires a QuickBooks Online Accountant account. Our courses are live, tutor-led training open to anyone, and you receive a TaxCare Academy Certificate of Completion for each level. If you’re eligible for Intuit’s certification, Level 3 covers how to approach it.

No. You train in a QuickBooks demo company we provide, so you can practise pay runs, corrections and submissions without touching live data or paying for a subscription first. If you already have QuickBooks Payroll at work, bring your questions — the tutor will work through your scenarios with you.

Yes. QuickBooks splits UK payroll into tiers, and which features you can see depends on the subscription. We teach you to identify the tier you’re working in and work confidently within it. Features that only exist at the higher tier are flagged clearly, so you always know whether a task needs a different subscription or a different approach.

RTI, including the Full Payment Submission and Employer Payment Summary, is introduced at Basics and revisited throughout. Workplace pension auto-enrolment — worker assessment, contributions, opt-outs, re-enrolment and provider submissions is covered in depth at Professional level, alongside year-end submissions, P60s and P45s. Statutory rates are always demonstrated against current HMRC and Pensions Regulator guidance.

Yes. Level 3 covers multi-client payroll, including QuickBooks Bureau Payroll, client onboarding, managing pay run calendars across a client book, and migrating payroll data in from other software or spreadsheets. It’s the level most bookkeeping practices send their staff to.

Level 1 is around 3 live hours, Level 2 is 6 hours across three or four sessions, and Level 3 is 6–9 hours across five or six sessions. The full pathway is roughly 15–18 live hours. Sessions run in daytime or evening slots, and Level 1 can be split into two shorter evenings for working learners.

Yes. After passing each level’s practical assessment and knowledge check you receive a TaxCare Academy Certificate of Completion for that level. The content is structured to support a CPD-hours claim for members of accountancy bodies.

It depends on what your employer or clients use  both are widely used across UK small businesses, and the underlying payroll duties are identical. If you work across a mixed client book, learning both is a genuine advantage. We run a parallel Xero Payroll training pathway at the same three levels.
